Experience the history of
the annual moose migration

You will be introduced to the oldest migratory track of moose in Northern Europe. This is an annual event with a 10 000 yr. history. This route is laid out on gravel roads and some old trails in the Espedal valley, along the Lakes of Olstappen and Slangen and into the Murudalen valley.

We will make stops along the way, look at the forest and the traces left by the moose. The moose and other deer were an essential resource for the people in this area for centuries and still is today. We will visit old moose traps and explain the various hunting techniques used by our forefathers.

We can arrange for lunch along the route. All our routes have been tested for all skill levels and the batteries on the E-bikes will last the entire trip with good margin.

Daytrip to the scenic and
legendary Sikkilsdalen Valley

From Skåbu we will make our way to Sikkilsdalen on the old road. We will follow the trail where the Norwegian Royal family used to be transported with horse and carriage and later with Harley-Davidsons w/sidecars. Along the way our guides will tell stories about the challenging journeys, at times, to this unique settlement.

At Sikkilsdalen we will often run into groups of horses which are sent here for the lush summers pasture, a more than 150 yr long tradition. We will enjoy a traditional mountain lunch featuring Norwegian specialities. The 5th generation host of the Sikkilsdalen Lodge will tell the story of this place and its close relation with the Norwegian Royal Family.

Duration: 5 hours. Suited for all skill levels. This is an easy ride for everyone. Our guides will assist you in the more challenging stretches. On the way home we offer a scenic detour to lake Flekkvatnet for those who feel like a little more challenge.

Øystein Nilsen 

Øystein Nilsen is an experienced cyclist who has participated in many mountain bike and road-bike races all over Norway, The Swiss Alps and the US Rocky Mountains for over 25 years. Øystein’s vast experience as a cyclist, enables him to plan and guide cycling tours for cyclists at all skill levels.

Øystein and his selected co-guides are all from the Skåbu area and know the area around Skåbu, Espedalen and the near-by Jotunheimen National Park. All of our guides have broad knowledge of the Skåbu-mountain area and it’s unique history and the tours are planned for the purpose of giving our guests an insight into our cultural heritage.
